Bio

A versatile musician with a "clear and gorgeous soprano" (Broadway World) and “exceptional acting” (Isthmus), Cat Richmond is an accomplished, regional performer. 

For the 2023–24 season, Ms. Richmond will be featured in a wide variety of roles and concert work beginning with a noontime program hosted by the Madison Savoyards featuring numerous excerpts from the Gilbert and Sullivan canon. Following this, Ms. Richmond will sing Die Königin der Nacht in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the Harrower Opera Workshop. She will then rejoin Music Theater of Madison as The Woman in a production of the contemporary musical, Who’s Your Baghdaddy by Pailet. To usher in the fall season, Ms. Richmond will once again be seen in Fresco Opera’s haunting program, Opera on the Point: Legends and Lore. Ms. Richmond will also join Opera for the Young as Beauty in their touring production of Beauty and the Beast adapted from Grétry’s classical opéra comique, Zémire et Azor.

Last season, Ms. Richmond joined Madison Savoyards as Zorah in their production of Ruddigore. In the fall, she made her debut with Music Theater of Madison as The Mother in their performances of Monstersongs.


In March 2020, Ms. Richmond competed in the semi-finals of the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition in Jackson, MI

Engagements for the 2020-21 season were all cancelled due to the pandemic, but included Edith/Mabel cover in Pirates of Penzance with the Madison Savoyards, and singing Gretel with Opera for the Young’s touring production of Hansel and Gretel.

In additional past seasons, Ms. Richmond was seen as Gretel in Capitol City Opera’s outreach production of Hansel and Gretel and Olympia with Opera Saratoga’s Opera to Go production of Pinocchio. Ms. Richmond also performed Lucia with Capitol City Opera in their “Dinner and a Diva” production of Lucia di Lammermoor. She was also seen as Le feu in ATLVocalite’s inaugural performance of L’enfant et les sortilèges.

Other favorite roles include the Lady with a Hand Mirror from Argento's Postcard from Morocco with Marble City Opera in Knoxville, Tennessee and Pamina in Fresco Opera Theatre’s world premiere of The Queen of the Night.
Ms. Richmond first performed with Fresco Opera Theatre's ensemble for their Opera Storytellers outreach performances. She was seen in scenes as Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), and Die Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte). 

No stranger to competitions, Ms. Richmond was a finalist in the National Opera Association’s Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition.
Ms. Richmond has performed and covered a diverse set of roles including Mary Warren (The Crucible), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Gianetta (L'elisir d'amore), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), and Carolina (Il matrimonio segreto). She has bowed with companies such as Opera Saratoga, Marble City Opera, and Capitol City Opera. 

She has expanded her musical theater repertoire by performing the role of Martha with The Warehouse Theatre for their production of Spring Awakening. She then joined Greenville-based, GLOW Lyric Theatre for their summer season of HAIR, The Gondoliers and The Crucible. 

A performer of contemporary music, Ms. Richmond and fellow GSU students joined composer John Luther Adams in performing SILA: The Breath of the World. She and her colleagues have composed and performed original works with the Creative Music Ensemble at Georgia State University. She presented pieces by David Diamond and Michael Pisaro.

Ms. Richmond has been seen as a young artist with the Charleston-based Piccolo Spoleto Festival and has performed as a soloist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston and recently completed her Master's degree at Georgia State University. Ms. Richmond holds a private voice and piano studio and thoroughly enjoys teaching in her spare time.
